Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Fixin Vieille Vigne 2014 750ml
Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
A ripe, fresh and markedly earthy nose displays a hint of the sauvage that can also be found on the vibrant and well-detailed if lighter weight flavors that exhibit mild austerity on the acceptably persistent and complex finish.
The 2014 Fixin Village, from 40-year-old vines and matured in around 10% new wood, has a light, crisp red cherry scented bouquet. Simple...but effective. The palate is crisp on the entry, pleasing weight in the mouth, though I found it a little austere towards the finish. Drink over the next 2-3 years.
Character of the wine
Although full and generous at the same time, our Fixin "Fondemens" will surprise by its crimson and steady color. Its fruity nose reminds a red fruit coulis, and in mouth it will amaze by its greediness and its frankness characteristic of Pinot Noir. They have a good acid content and are endowed with a solidity and substance which places them among wines that are best laid down for a certain time.
When young they possess animal aromas suggestive of pelts and musk. These are ample wines which develop their bouquet over time as they mature.
