Sierra Cantabria Amancio 2008 750ml
Among the most prestigious vineyards of Viñedos Sierra Cantaria, La Veguilla stands out. This plot 16.5 hectare plot of land has an abundance of small, rounded calcareous stones on the surface and it is planted with Tempranillo and a small percentage of Malvasia and Viura. Here, sheltered from the cold, wet North winds by the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range, Amancio is born. Viñedos Sierra Cantabria Rioja Amancio is a wine that is the result of a rigorous selection of grapes from an exceptional and very low yielding vineyard. Only the berries that are closest to perfection in terms of their structure, health and maturity make the cut - usually no more than 8-10% of the total harvest - and they are then foot-trodden and matured in new French oak.
Destemmed by hand, berry by berry, with a rigorous selection of every grape. Cold maceration pre-fermentation. Fermentation in 500 L French oak barrels and 1,000 L open top oak vats with selected indigenous yeast. Total maceration is 21 days.

Highly Recommended. A fine aromatic blend of oak and fruit, with earthy, peppery, tobacco notes pushing forward alongside fleshy red fruit. The palate is layered and rich, poised and classy with lovely flow. A typically vibrant Rioja. Drink 2018-2026.

Bright purple. Explosive aromas of primary dark berries, cola, vanilla and incense, with a strong spicy quality that builds with air. Sappy, penetrating boysenberry and blueberry flavours are deeply concentrated but surprisingly energetic, with a firm spine of acidity adding structure. Finishes silky, sweet and very long, with resonating spice and floral qualities. This is a baby.
